after the last election, the democratic leadership in the senate said their top goal was to keep these senators from retiring. jay rockefeller, tim johnson, frank lautenberg and tim hark in. their top goal was that none of those five guys would retire. all of those five guys are retiring, and now max baucus. 25 have quit just since '09. we're still doing the numbers in our own research, but as far as we can tell so far, this appears to be the fastest pace of u.s. senators quitting that job in modern american history. why is the u.s. senate suddenly such an awful place to work? why are they all quitting? we have been trying for months now to book any of the senators who have decided to quit from either side of the aisle. i have even offered, which i never do, i have even offered that we would only talk about the senate as a place to work. we don't even need to talk policy. but so far not a single one of these quitting senators has said yes. listen, as a country we invest a lot of energy and money and figuring trying to decide who is going to go to the united states senate. tell us if so
